About Grade 3 Reading
Grade 3 reading (3rd grade, ages 8β9) is 40 lessons in 5 units: Vocabulary & Word Power (lessons 1β8), Comprehension Skills (lessons 9β16), Reading for Information (lessons 17β24), Reading Fluency & Expression (lessons 25β32), and finally Reading Projects (lessons 33β40), project work that brings the year together. Along the way, children learn to define cause and effect and explain the relationship between them, distinguish between skimming and scanning as reading strategies and identify the four stages of a story arc: setup, rising action, climax, and resolution.
