Mini Lesson

An end-of-year reading celebration is a time to pause, look back at how far you have come as a reader, and share the books and skills that mattered most this year. It is a moment to celebrate every book finished, every strategy mastered, and every connection made through stories.

Reflecting on Your Reading Year

  • Which book was your favorite this year? What made it special?
  • Which reading skill improved the most for you? Fluency? Comprehension? Vocabulary?
  • Was there a moment when reading felt magical — when you were completely lost in a story?
  • Which genre did you discover or enjoy for the first time?

Sharing a Book Recommendation

  • Choose one book from this year that you would recommend to a friend.
  • Share the title, author, and a brief summary — without spoiling the ending.
  • Explain WHY you recommend it: what kind of reader would love this book?
  • Read one favorite sentence or paragraph aloud to give your audience a taste.

Setting Goals for Next Term

  • Identify one reading skill you want to improve next year.
  • Name one type of book or genre you want to explore.
  • Set a specific target: "I will read ___ books next year" or "I will read for ___ minutes every day."
  • Write down your goal — goals you write down are more likely to be achieved.
