Mini Lesson

A book review poster is a creative way to share your opinion about a book with others. Unlike a plain written review, a poster combines words and visuals to catch a reader's eye and make them curious about the book. The best book review posters answer one question: "Why should someone read this book?"

What Goes on a Book Review Poster?

  • Title and author — always credit the creator of the book.
  • A short summary — tell what the book is about WITHOUT spoiling the ending.
  • Your opinion — use specific reasons and evidence from the text.
  • A star rating or recommendation — Would you suggest it? For which readers?
  • An eye-catching visual — a drawing, quote, or design element that represents the book.

Writing Your Opinion With Evidence

  • Avoid vague opinions like "It was good." Instead, explain WHY: "The story kept me guessing because..."
  • Use evidence from the book: "I enjoyed the part where... because it showed..."
  • Comment on the author's style: "The author uses short sentences to create excitement."
  • Mention characters, settings, or themes that stood out to you.

Designing the Poster

  • Use a clear layout — readers should know where to look first.
  • Choose colors and fonts that match the mood of the book.
  • Include a short, powerful quote from the book to draw readers in.
  • Make the title the biggest text so the book is instantly recognisable.
