About Grade 6 Reading
Grade 6 reading (6th grade, ages 11β12) is 40 lessons in 5 units: Unit 1 β Vocabulary & Word Study (lessons 1β8), Unit 2 β Literary Comprehension (lessons 9β16), Unit 3 β Reading Informational Texts (lessons 17β24), Unit 4 β Fluency & Performance (lessons 25β32), and finally Unit 5 β Reading Projects (lessons 33β40), project work that brings the year together. Along the way, children learn to identify symbols in a literary text and distinguish them from their literal meaning, identify the main idea contributed by each of two or more sources on the same topic and plan a short audio summary or book review using a script structure.
