Interpret idioms, irony and figurative language

Figurative language is language that goes beyond the literal meaning of words. Writers use it to make their writing vivid, emotional, and memorable. In Grade 6 texts you will encounter four key types: idioms, irony, hyperbole, and personification. Recognizing each type helps you understand what the writer really means — not just what the words say on the surface.
