Grade 6 · Reading · Lesson 31

Self-assess fluency with a checklist

Reading fluency is more than reading quickly. It has four distinct components: accuracy (reading words correctly), rate (reading at an appropriate pace), prosody (using rhythm and phrasing that reflects meaning), and expression (adjusting your voice to match punctuation and emotion). When all four work together, reading sounds natural and comprehension follows more easily.
