Lesson 46: Rhyming words and sounds

📖 READING (40 Lessons)🟢 A. Sounds and Words

← Back to Level 1

Objective

Use the ending sound to hear, read, and match simple rhyming words in a mini-book, drag-and-drop sentences, and a Quick Check.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Rhyming words

Rhyming words are like word friends. They sound the same at the end.

The beginning of the word can change, but the ending sound stays the same.

  • cat and hat rhyme because they both end with -at.
  • dog and log rhyme because they both end with -og.
  • sun and run rhyme because they both end with -un.

To check if words rhyme, be a sound detective:

  • Say the words slowly: cat, hat.
  • Listen carefully to the last part of each word.
  • If the end sounds the same, the words rhyme.

In this lesson, you will:

  • Read a short rhyming mini-book.
  • Drag and drop words that rhyme into sentences.
  • Answer a Quick Check about rhyming words.

Tip: If you are not sure, say the two words together out loud and listen for the matching end sound.
