What Grade 1 covers

Grade 1 (1st grade, ages 6–7) is 280 lessons: 40 in each of 7 subjects, every subject in a clear order from lesson 1 to 40. For example: in math, children learn to read a short story problem and spot the clue words that signal add or subtract; in reading, to use clues from the story to predict the most likely next event; and in science, to describe the moon as the Earth's natural satellite that reflects sunlight.
