📖 READING (40 Lessons)🟢 A. Sounds and Words

← Back to Level 1

Objective

Read and understand simple color words and number words in short sentences, and match them correctly in a mini-book, drag-and-drop practice, and a Quick Check.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Color and number words

Today you will look at two kinds of words in your reading: color words and number words.

Color words tell you what color something is.
Some common color words are:

  • red — like many hearts or apples
  • blue — like the sky on a clear day
  • yellow — like the sun in many drawings
  • green — like grass and many leaves

Number words tell you how many things there are.
Some common number words are:

  • one — 1 thing
  • two — 2 things
  • three — 3 things
  • four — 4 things
  • five — 5 things

Color words and number words often work together in the same sentence:

  • “I see one red ball.” — one tells how many, red tells the color.
  • “I see three yellow stars.” — three tells how many, yellow tells the color.

When you read, use these words to picture the sentence in your mind.

  • If you see a color word, imagine the color.
  • If you see a number word, imagine how many things you see.

Remember: color words tell what color, and number words tell how many.
