Materials

Mini-lesson — Foods and clothes in daily life

People eat many kinds of food and wear many kinds of clothes.

Foods can be different

  • Some people eat more rice, some eat more bread.
  • Some foods are spicy, some are soft or sweet.
  • People may drink tea, juice, or other drinks.

Clothes can be different

  • In cold weather, people wear warm coats, hats, and boots.
  • In hot weather, people wear light shirts, shorts, or dresses.
  • Some clothes are for work, some are for sport, some are for a party.

What stays the same?

  • Everyone needs food to stay healthy.
  • Everyone wears clothes to cover and protect their body.
  • Families choose foods and clothes that fit their daily life.

How do we talk about it?

  • Use kind words like "That looks tasty" or "That is a nice outfit".
  • Do not say other people's food or clothes are "weird" or "bad".
  • Remember: no food or clothing style is "better" than another.

Different foods and clothes show different ways of living. We can learn about them with respect.

Guided Practice — Foods and clothes chart

You will make a simple chart to show different foods and clothes.

  1. Draw a big rectangle and split it into two parts. Label one side "Foods" and the other side "Clothes".
  2. In the Foods part, draw two or three foods (for example, rice, bread, soup, salad, fruit).
  3. In the Clothes part, draw two or three clothes (for example, shirt, dress, coat, shoes).
  4. Under the chart, write or trace one same idea, such as "Everyone eats" or "Everyone wears clothes".
  5. On the side, write or trace one different idea, such as "Foods are not all the same" or "Clothes can look different".
  6. Read your chart aloud to an adult. Use kind words when you talk about each food or outfit.

  3. Say if it is the same as something you know, or different, using sentences like "This is like my food" or "This is new for me".
