← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can talk about family celebrations, name simple traditions, and show respect for different ways families celebrate.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Family celebrations

A celebration is a special time when people come together to share, smile, and sometimes have food & music.

Examples of family celebrations

  • Birthdays with cake or a small party.
  • New year, festivals, or holidays.
  • Welcoming a new baby or a family visit.

Things we might do at celebrations

  • Eat special food together.
  • Listen to music or dance.
  • Wear special clothes.
  • Give gifts or cards.
  • Say kind words like "Happy birthday!"

Short celebration sentences

  • "We have a party."
  • "We eat cake."
  • "We play music."
  • "We dance together."

Not every family has the same celebrations. We never say one way is better. We listen and show respect.

Practice — Sharing our celebrations

Use your page to share about one family celebration in a kind and respectful way.

  1. Sit with an adult or with your family. Take turns sharing your pages.
  2. When it is your turn, say: "In my family we celebrate _____ . We _____ ."
  3. Listen carefully when others talk. Look at the speaker and stay quiet.
  4. After each person speaks, you may say a kind sentence such as "Thank you for sharing" or "That sounds special".
  5. Notice how some celebrations are the same and some are different. All can be important.
