Objective
I can write short sentences about a friend,
using kind words, clear capitals,
spaces, and a period.
Materials
- Short, sharpened pencil
- Eraser
- Ruled paper (primary lines preferred)

- Small card with your friend's name
Mini-lesson — Kind sentences about a friend
When you write about a friend, your words should be
kind, true, and
easy to read.
What can you write about?
- What your friend is like: kind, funny, helpful.
- What you do together: play, draw, talk, read.
- How you feel: I feel happy with my friend.
Helpful sentence starters
- My friend is…
- My friend likes to…
- We like to…
- I feel… when we are together.
Keep each sentence simple
- Write about one clear idea in each sentence.
- Use a capital letter at the start.
- Leave spaces between words.
- Finish with a period.
Think: "Am I being kind? Can my reader see who my friend is and what we do?"

Use this routine to practice sentences
about a friend you choose.

Think of one friend:
Say your friend's name out loud and picture them in your mind.

List kind words:
Say words that fit your friend, such as
kind, funny, helpful, or brave.

Trace on the pad:
On the Tracing Pad, choose a
word or short pattern like
my, friend, kind, or helps
and trace it neatly on the line.

Say a full sentence:
Use your traced words to say a sentence such as
My friend is kind. or
My friend helps me.

Move to paper:
On your paper, write two or three sentences
about your friend. Use sentence starters like
My friend is… or We like to….

Check your writing:
Read your sentences. Look for a
capital letter, clear spaces,
and a period at the end of each one.
You can save these sentences to use later
in a longer story about your friend.
