Objective

I can write about a family tradition by telling what we do, when we do it, and why it matters to us.

Materials

Mini-lesson

A family tradition is something your family does again and again. Strong writing explains what happens, when it happens, and why it matters.

Tell what the tradition is

  • Name the tradition clearly.
  • Example: Every winter, my family bakes cookies together.

Tell when it happens

  • Use time words like every year, on Fridays, or during holidays.

Tell why it matters

  • Explain how the tradition makes your family feel or what it teaches.
  • Example: It helps us spend time together.

Ask yourself: "Does every sentence help explain my main idea?"
