Materials

Mini-lesson

When you write about someone who inspires you, do more than name the person. Tell who the person is, what makes that person special, and why you look up to that person.

Name the person clearly

  • Start with the person’s name or role.
  • Example: My grandfather inspires me.

Add strong qualities

  • Use qualities like kind, brave, patient, or hardworking.
  • Example: He is patient and hardworking.

Explain why

  • Tell what the person does that inspires you.
  • Example: He keeps trying even when work is hard.

Ask yourself: "Does every sentence help explain my main idea?"
