How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can use correct punctuation and spelling to make my writing clear and easy to read.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Good ideas matter, but clean writing matters too

Good ideas matter, but clean writing matters too. Writers check capitals, punctuation, and spelling so readers can understand every sentence.

Key idea

  • Begin sentences with a capital letter.
  • Use the correct end mark such as a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.
  • Add commas where they belong in simple lists or openings when needed.

Keep it strong

  • Check the spelling of common words.
  • Read slowly to catch letters or words that look wrong.
  • Fix mistakes so your writing looks polished and ready to share.

Example

  • Before: my freind likes apples oranges and pears
  • After: My friend likes apples, oranges, and pears.
  • The second version is easier to read because the punctuation and spelling are correct.

Ask yourself: "Did I make my writing clear, organized, and easy to follow?"
