How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can write a short rhyming poem using rhyming words and an easy pattern like AABB.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Rhyming poems use matching sounds

A rhyming poem is made of short lines. The ends of some lines have words that sound the same.

Rhyming words

  • cat / mat
  • bike / hike
  • sun / fun
  • play / day

Easy rhyme pattern: AABB

  • Line 1 rhymes with Line 2 (A, A)
  • Line 3 rhymes with Line 4 (B, B)

Tip: Make sure your poem still makes sense. Rhymes are fun, but meaning matters too.

Guided Practice — Copy 4 poem lines neatly

Choose 4 lines from the Trace menu and copy them neatly on paper. Then use the Tracing Pad to practice tricky words and ending marks.

Try an AABB pattern: pick two lines that rhyme, then pick two more lines that rhyme.

Drag & Drop — Complete the rhyming poems

Drag the best word into each blank. Each poem uses an AABB pattern: lines 1–2 rhyme and lines 3–4 rhyme.
