Objective
I can add dialogue to my story using quotation marks
and a speaker tag (said, asked, whispered).
Materials
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Ruled paper (primary lines preferred)
Mini-lesson — Dialogue makes stories sound real
Dialogue is when characters talk. Dialogue makes your story feel
lively, like you can hear the voices.
3 simple dialogue rules
-
Put the spoken words inside quotation marks:
"Come here!"
-
If you add a speaker tag, use a comma inside the quotes:
"Come here," said Max.
-
Use a word that shows how someone talks:
said, asked, shouted, whispered.
Quick check: Do I have quotes, the right punctuation, and who is speaking?
