Materials

Mini-lesson — Help your reader “see” the place

Descriptive writing helps your reader picture a place in their mind. Use sensory details to describe what you notice.

Use your senses

  • See: colors, shapes, light
  • Hear: sounds (whispering, roaring, humming)
  • Smell: sweet, salty, smoky
  • Feel: warm, cold, sticky, rough

Upgrade plain words

  • nice → sparkling
  • big → giant
  • good → amazing
