How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can expand a sentence by adding descriptive words (words that tell what kind and how).

Materials

Mini-lesson — Make sentences stronger with details

A simple sentence is correct, but it can feel plain. You can make it better by adding descriptive words.

Adjectives describe a noun (a person, place, or thing).

  • What kind? tiny kitten
  • Which one? that bike
  • How many? three cookies

Adverbs describe an action (how something happens).

  • How? ran quickly
  • How? spoke quietly

Easy sentence upgrade

  • Start: The dog ran.
  • Add an adjective: The fast dog ran.
  • Add an adverb: The fast dog ran quickly.

Quick check: "Did I add a word that tells what kind? Did I add a word that tells how?"
