✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Writing Projects

← Back to Level 2

Objective

I can write a short paragraph about a community helper (like a teacher, firefighter, nurse, or postal worker) using: a topic sentence, 2–3 detail sentences that fit the topic, and a closing sentence.

Materials

Tip: Pick one helper and stay on that topic. Add details about what they do, tools they use, and how they help.

Mini-lesson — Plan: Topic → Details → Closing

  1. Choose the helper: teacher, firefighter, nurse, postal worker, police officer, bus driver, etc.
  2. Topic sentence: Name who they are and your main idea. Example:Firefighters keep our town safe.”
  3. Two or three details: What do they do? What tools or places do they use? Why is it important?
  4. Closing sentence: Wrap up your idea. Example: “That’s why firefighters are important helpers.”
  5. Flow: Use simple connectors like first, next, finally or because.

Guided Practice — Trace on the Pad

Trace key words, then draft a tiny paragraph (4 sentences) about one helper you choose:

  • Key words: topic, detail, closing, because, tools
  • Example outline (Firefighter):
    1. Topic: Firefighters keep our town safe.
    2. Detail: They use hoses and ladders to stop fires.
    3. Detail: They teach families about safety.
    4. Closing: That is why firefighters are important helpers.
