How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can work with a partner by listening, taking turns, and adding one helpful idea to our story.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Writing as a team

Sometimes the best stories are made by a team. Working together means you help the story grow while you stay kind and fair.

Take turns

  • One person talks, the other person listens.
  • Switch turns so both people get to share.

Use kind words

  • Say: That is a good idea.
  • Say: Let’s try this.
  • Do not say mean words about someone’s writing.

Build one story

  • Pick one character and one setting.
  • Add one event at a time (beginning, then next, then the end).

Agree on the plan

  • If you have two ideas, choose one together.
  • You can save the other idea for another day.

Check together

  • Read it out loud.
  • Make sure it starts with a capital and ends with a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.

Ask yourself: "Did we listen and take turns?"
