Materials

Mini-lesson — Write your day in order

A great school-day paragraph is simple. The secret is: use time words, say what happened, and keep sentences clean.

Time words

  • Use First, Next, Then, Last.
  • Time words help your reader follow your day.
  • They keep your writing in order.

Complete sentences

  • Start with a capital letter.
  • Say what you did: I read. I learned.
  • End with a period.

Add one detail

  • Details make it real: who, where, or what.
  • Example: I played with friends.
  • Keep it short and clear.

Make it easy to read

  • One space between words.
  • Words in the right order.
  • Neat letters on the line.

Ask yourself: "Did I use a time word? Did I start with a capital? Did I end with a period?"
