Objective

I can describe my home using describing words, clear sentences, and a simple because reason.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Describing words make writing stronger

Good descriptions are simple. Do three things: name it, describe it, and say why.

Name it clearly

  • Start with one clear sentence.
  • Example: My home is cozy.
  • Start with a capital letter. End with a period.

Add describing words

  • Describing words tell what something is like.
  • Try words like: cozy, clean, quiet, bright.
  • Example: My room is neat and quiet.

Add one detail

  • Details make writing more real.
  • Example: We eat in the kitchen.
  • Keep the sentence short and clear.

Say why

  • Use because to give a reason.
  • Example: I like my home because it feels safe.
  • End with a period.

Ask yourself: "Did I use describing words? Did I keep my sentences clear? Did I end with a period?"
