Objective

describing words, and a simple because reason.
Materials
- Sharpened pencil
- Eraser
- Ruled paper (primary lines preferred)
Mini-lesson — A clean food sentence
Strong writing can be simple. For a food paragraph, do three things:
name it, describe it, and say why.
Name it clearly
- Start with one clear sentence.
- Example: My favorite food is pizza.
- Start with a capital letter. End with a period.
Add describing words
- Describing words help the reader imagine it.
- Try two words: hot, sweet, crunchy, cheesy.
- Example: It is hot and cheesy.
Say why
- Use because to give a reason.
- Keep it simple: because it tastes good.
- End with a period.
Keep it neat
- Leave spaces between words.
- Keep letters sitting on the line.
- Slow writing looks cleaner.
Ask yourself:
"Did I use describing words? Did I use because? Did I end with a period?"
