Materials

Mini-lesson — Write about a friend

Writing about a friend is easier when you use a simple plan: name, describe, and tell why.

Use a name with a capital letter

  • Names start with a capital letter.
  • Example: Sam, Mia, Liam.
  • Keep the rest of the letters lowercase.

Add one describing word

  • Describing words tell what your friend is like: kind, funny, helpful.
  • Pick one word that fits best.
  • Keep it simple and clear.

Say what you do together

  • Add one activity: play, read, draw, run.
  • This makes your sentence more specific.

Finish with a reason

  • Tell why your friend is special.
  • Use a simple reason: She shares. He helps me.
  • End with a period.

Ask yourself: "Did I use a name with a capital letter? Did I add a describing word? Did I end with a period?"
