How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can write a short story by choosing a character and setting, adding a small problem, and writing sentences in order.

Materials

Mini-lesson — A tiny story that makes sense

A short story is like a little movie in your head. It feels clear when it has three simple parts: who, where, and what happens.

Character (who?)

  • Pick one main character: a kid, a pet, or a robot.
  • Use the character’s name the same way each time.

Setting (where?)

  • Choose one place: park, room, beach, school.
  • Tell the setting early so your reader can “see” it.

Problem & fix (what happens?)

  • Add one small problem: lost, stuck, spilled, late.
  • Then add a simple fix: find it, clean it, ask for help.

Keep it short

  • Write 3–5 sentences.
  • Each sentence should connect to the next one.

Ask yourself: "Do my sentences stay on one story path?"

Guided Practice — Story words warm-up

Choose 3 sentences from the Trace menu and copy them neatly on paper. Then use the Tracing Pad to practice words, sentences, and marks.

Drag & Drop — Build a short story (5 sentences)

Drag the words to build each sentence. Together, the sentences make one short story.

One day I went to the park .
I saw my dog Max there .
Then Max ran after a ball .
Uh oh he could not find it .
Finally I helped and we went home .
