Objective

Materials

Mini-lesson — Write about an animal

Writing about an animal is easier when you use a simple plan: name it, describe it, and tell why you like it.

Start with one clear sentence

  • Begin with a capital letter.
  • Say the animal name.
  • End with a period.

Add 2–3 easy details

  • What does it look like?
  • What does it do?
  • Where does it live (home, farm, ocean, jungle)?

Use describing words

  • Pick one or two words that fit: soft, fast, tiny, strong.
  • Describing words make your sentence more interesting.
  • Don’t add too many. Keep it clear.

Finish with a reason

  • Tell why it is your favorite.
  • Use a simple reason: It is friendly. It is brave. It makes me smile.

Ask yourself: "Did I name the animal? Did I add a few details? Did I end with a period?"
