Objective

I can write a simple sentence with one clear idea, a capital letter at the start, spaces between words, and an ending period.

Materials

Mini-lesson — One idea, start big, end clean

A sentence is a group of words that tells one clear idea. It starts clean and ends clean.

One idea

  • Say one thing.
  • Keep it short.
  • Make it easy to read.

Start with a capital

  • The first letter in a sentence is a capital.
  • That helps your reader know where the sentence begins.

Spaces between words

  • Words need a small space so they do not crash.
  • Small and steady looks best.

End with a period

  • A period is a small dot that says “stop.”
  • It shows your sentence is finished.

Ask yourself: "Did I start with a capital? Are my words spaced? Did I end with a period?"
