Objective
I can leave a clear space between words so my writing is
easy to read and words do not get squished together.
Materials
- Sharpened pencil
- Eraser
- Ruled paper (primary lines preferred)
Mini-lesson — Clean spaces make words easy to read
Words are like friends in a line. They can be close, but they should not crash into each other.
A small space helps your eyes find each word fast.
One-finger space
- After a word, make a small gap before the next word.
- You can use a finger-space trick on paper.
- On the screen, think: one small blank between words.
Not squished
- If words touch, they look like one long word.
- That makes reading slower.
- Fix it by adding one clean space.
Not huge gaps
- Big gaps can look strange, like you skipped a word.
- Try to keep spaces about the same size.
- Small and steady is the goal.
Ask yourself:
"Can I point to each word? Are my spaces small and steady?"
