Objective

I can write short words left to right, keep letters in the right order, and make each word look neat on the line.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Short words, clear order

Short words look neat when letters stay in order. The trick is to go left to right and build the word one letter at a time.

Left to right

  • Start on the left and move to the right.
  • Do not jump around in the word.
  • Keep your pencil strokes calm and controlled.

Keep letters in order

  • Say the word slowly.
  • Write the first letter, then the next letter.
  • Check the word after you finish.

Neat word shape

  • Small letters stay in the small space.
  • Letters sit on the baseline (bottom line).
  • Light pressure keeps lines smooth.

Ask yourself: "Did I go left to right? Are my letters in order? Does the word sit on the line?"
