Materials

Mini-lesson — Weather reports tell us about the day

Every day, the weather can change. It might be sunny, rainy, windy, or snowy.

A weather report is a short piece of information that tells us:

  • what the sky will be like (sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy)
  • how warm or cold it will feel (hot, warm, cool, cold)
  • if we need special clothes (coat, boots, hat, umbrella)

Weather reports can be:

  • tiny picture charts with suns, clouds, or raindrops
  • little sentences like “Today will be sunny and warm.”
  • small boxes that show the high and low temperature

Good readers look at:

  • the weather words (sunny, rainy, windy, snowy)
  • the temperature words (hot, warm, cool, cold)
  • the pictures (sun, cloud, raindrops, snowflakes)

You can use these sentence frames:

“The weather will be _____ and _____.”

“I will wear _____ and I can _____.”

Today, you will read tiny weather reports and practice saying what the day will be like and what people might wear or do.
