Objective

I can write about a simple dream (real or imaginary) using a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Turning a dream into a story

Sometimes we have dreams at night. Some dreams are fun, some feel strange, and some can feel a bit scary.

In writing, a dream can become a short story.

Three parts of a dream story:

  • Beginning: When and where the dream starts.
  • Middle: What happens in the dream.
  • End: How the dream finishes or how you feel.

Example dream story:

  • Beginning: One night I dreamed about a bright park.
  • Middle: I rode a rainbow slide into the clouds.
  • End: I woke up smiling and felt safe.

Your dream story does not have to be real. It can be made up, like a gentle adventure in your mind.

If a dream feels scary, it is still just a dream. You can always tell a trusted adult about it.

Guided Practice — Dream talk and tracing

Use this routine to warm up before you write your own dream story.

  1. Think of a dream: It can be a dream you remember or a made-up dream you would like to have.
  2. Say it aloud: Tell a trusted adult one thing you saw in the dream and one thing you did.
  3. Trace dream words: On the Tracing Pad, choose words like night, dream, or cloud and trace them neatly.
  4. Practice the three parts: Say a beginning sentence, a middle sentence, and an end sentence about your dream.
  5. Check your sentences: Do they start with a capital letter and end with a period?
  6. Now write your dream story: On your paper, write a short dream story with a clear beginning, middle, and end.

If a dream feels scary, write about it gently and talk with a trusted adult about how you feel.
