🟡 SOCIAL STUDIES (40 Lessons)🔵 B. My School and Community

← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can name some local places I visit with an adult and show kind and safe actions there.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Local places we visit

In a community there are many places people visit.

Some local places

  • A park to play and walk.
  • A shop or market to buy food or things we need.
  • A clinic when we need care.
  • A library to read and borrow books.
  • A hall or centre where people meet.

We usually visit with an adult

  • We stay near the adult who brought us.
  • We listen for short words like "wait" or "come".
  • We use kind and quiet voices when needed.

Kind and safe actions

  • At the park: take turns and use the play area safely.
  • At the shop: wait in a line and keep hands calm.
  • At the clinic: sit and wait, use a quiet voice.
  • At the library: use a soft voice and care for the books.

We do not decide which place is the "best". Each place helps us in a different way. We can show respect in all of them.

Guided Practice — My visit picture

You will draw a picture that shows a visit to one local place with an adult.

  1. Choose one place: park, shop, clinic, or library.
  2. Think: "Why do we visit this place?" (for example, to play, to buy food, to see a nurse, to read).
  3. On your page, draw yourself and an adult at that place.
  4. Add small labels using short words such as "visit", "wait", "line", "quiet", "thank".
  5. Under the picture, write or trace one sentence: "We visit the _____ ." or "At the _____ I _____ ."
  6. Read your sentence aloud to an adult. Point to your picture as you read. Talk about one kind or safe action in the scene.

Practice — Where are we visiting?

Use this activity to talk about local places and kind actions when you visit with an adult.

  1. An adult says a short visit idea, such as "We are going to get books." or "We are going to play on the swings."
  2. Say which place it might be (for example, "library" or "park").
  3. Then say one kind or safe action, such as "I use a quiet voice" or "I wait in line".
  4. Try a few more visit ideas: going to a shop, clinic, or hall. For each idea, name the place and a kind action.
  5. At the end, tell an adult which local place you like to visit and one good way you act there.

Quick Check — Visiting local places

Answer each question about local places and kind, safe actions. These questions do not judge which place is better. They help you think about how to act when you visit.

1) Which of these can be a local place?

A park is a place in a community.

2) Why might people visit a library?

A library is for reading and borrowing books.

3) You go to the park with an adult. What is a kind action?

Taking turns is a kind way to play.

4) At the shop, what is a respectful action?

We wait in line and stay calm in shops.

5) Your adult says, "We are going to see a nurse." Where are you most likely going?

A nurse usually works at a clinic.

6) At the clinic, what is a safe and kind choice?

We sit and wait with calm bodies and voices.

7) Which sentence shows respect in the library?

We care for books and speak softly in a library.

8) Which short word can match a kind visit action?

"Thank" is a kind word to use when you visit.

9) When you visit a local place, who should you stay near?

We stay near the trusted adult who brought us.

10) Why is it good to learn how to act in local places?

Kind actions help people feel safe and respected in shared places.
