Grade 6 · Writing · Lesson 5

Write counter-arguments and rebuttals

A persuasive essay becomes far more powerful when the writer anticipates and addresses the opposing side. A counter-argument presents the strongest objection to your thesis — honestly and fairly. A rebuttal then responds to that objection, showing why your position still holds. Together they demonstrate that you have thought critically about the issue from multiple angles.
