Grade 5 · Social Studies · Lesson 15

Laws, rights and voting (basics)

A LAW is a rule made and enforced by the government. Laws apply to everyone — kids, parents, judges, even the President. They tell us what we MUST do (drive on the right side of the road, pay taxes) and what we MUST NOT do (steal, hurt others). Laws keep a country fair, safe, and predictable. Without laws, the strongest person would just get to do whatever they wanted.
