A mystery makes the reader wonder what happened. A fantasy story includes magical, impossible, or invented ideas.

Mystery stories often include

  • a strange event or missing object
  • clues the character finds
  • a question the reader wants answered

Fantasy stories often include

  • magic or imaginary creatures
  • a world with unusual rules
  • a problem that needs courage or clever thinking

Example

  • Mystery: The trophy disappeared, but muddy footprints led to the library.
  • Fantasy: A silver dragon guarded the bridge to the cloud village.
