Mini Lesson

Technology is a wonderful tool for learning and entertainment, but spending too much time on screens can affect your health, sleep, friendships, and focus. Finding the right balance means enjoying technology while also making time for exercise, rest, reading, and face-to-face time with family and friends.

Why Screen Time Balance Matters

  • Too much screen time before bed can disturb your sleep.
  • Sitting still for long periods is not good for your body — movement keeps you healthy.
  • Screens can distract you from lessons, reading, and creative play.
  • Real conversations with people build social skills that screens cannot replace.
  • Your eyes need regular breaks from looking at close-up screens.

Healthy Technology Habits

  • Follow agreed screen-time limits set by your family.
  • Take a short break every 20–30 minutes — look away from the screen.
  • Avoid screens for at least one hour before bedtime.
  • Use technology for learning, creativity, and staying in touch with family.
  • Balance screen time with physical activity, outdoor play, or reading every day.

Unhealthy Technology Habits

  • Using devices in bed right before you sleep.
  • Skipping meals or exercise because you are too busy on a screen.
  • Spending many hours on games or videos without any breaks.
  • Ignoring family or friends while using a device.
  • Using a screen to avoid boredom instead of trying a creative activity.
