Mini Lesson

Personal information is any detail that identifies who you are or where you can be found. Some information is safe to share online, but other details must be kept private to protect your safety and the safety of your family.

Safe to Share Online

  • Your first name (not your full name combined with other details).
  • Your favorite color, sport, or hobby.
  • A project or drawing you are proud of.
  • Your age or grade (without your club name or address).
  • A general country or region where you live (not your street or town).

Keep Private Online

  • Your full name (first + last name together).
  • Your home address or the name of your street.
  • Your club or team name and its location.
  • Your phone number or the phone number of a family member.
  • Your passwords or account usernames.
  • Photos that show your team jersey, your home, or your street.
  • Your daily routine — for example, what time you walk home.

Why Keeping Information Private Matters

  • Strangers online may not be who they say they are.
  • Your address or club name could be used to find you in real life.
  • Shared passwords can be used to access your accounts.
  • Photos with team jerseys or landmarks can reveal where you live or play.
