✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Writing Projects

← Back to Level 3

Objective

I can give kind, specific, and actionable feedback on a classmate’s writing using the Stars & Wishes method: ⭐ Two Stars (things done well) and 🌟 One Wish (one clear suggestion to improve).

Materials

Use sentence starters: I noticed…, This part is clear because…, One idea to try is…

Mini-lesson — What makes feedback helpful?

  1. Kind tone: Focus on the writing, not the writer.
  2. Specific: Point to exact places in the text.
  3. Actionable: Suggest a clear next step (add a transition, give an example, clarify the topic).
  4. Stars & Wish: Share 2 strengths and 1 improvement idea.
  5. Revise after feedback: Use the wish to make the writing better.

Guided Practice — Trace on the Pad

Read the sample paragraph, then write 2 Stars and 1 Wish on the pad:

  • Look for: topic sentence, clear details, transitions, closing.
  • Sample paragraph:
Recess helps us return to class ready to learn. During recess we run, play tag, and talk with friends. These breaks give our brains rest. Therefore, we can focus better after playing outside.
