How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can write a short story with a clear beginning, middle, and a surprise ending.

Materials

Mini-lesson — A surprise ending changes what you thought

A surprise ending is an ending you do not expect. It makes the reader say, "Wait… really?"

Keep it simple

  • Beginning: Who? Where?
  • Middle: What happens? (a problem or mystery)
  • Ending: The surprise is revealed.

Easy surprise ideas

  • It was a dream (but keep it short).
  • It was a costume or a trick.
  • The "monster" was something normal (a cat, a fan, a shadow).
  • The character finds out something funny (a talking toy or a note).

Quick check: "Does the ending make sense, even though it surprises me?"

Guided Practice — Plan a surprise ending
