How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can write about a family trip using a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Tell the trip in order

A personal narrative tells something that really happened. When you write about a trip, tell it in order so your reader can follow along.

A great trip paragraph has 3 parts

  • Beginning: Who went and where you went.
  • Middle: What you did (add 2–3 details).
  • End: How it ended and how you felt.

Helpful sequence words

  • First, Next, Then, Later, Finally

Quick check: "Did I tell what happened first, next, and last?"

Drag & Drop — Build each family trip paragraph

Drag the best sentences into order: beginning, middle, middle, end.

My family took a trip to the beach. First we packed snacks and towels. Then we played in the sand and splashed in the water. Finally I felt happy and tired on the way home. My teacher wrote on the board. I cleaned my room before dinner.
Last weekend my family went to the zoo. Next we looked at tall giraffes and sleepy lions. Then we ate lunch together near the pond. In the end I felt excited about the trip. My brother lost his pencil at school. We folded clean shirts after breakfast.
One day my family drove to the mountains. First we followed a winding road and saw tall trees. Later we took pictures and ate sandwiches outside. Finally I felt calm and proud of our trip. I sharpened my pencil at my desk. My cousin read quietly on the sofa.
My family went on a trip to a lake. First we unpacked our bags by the water. Then we skipped rocks and watched ducks swim by. At the end I felt peaceful and warm inside. The bus stopped near the school gate. I washed my hands before lunch.
This weekend my family visited a museum. First we walked through a room full of dinosaur bones. Then we talked about our favorite exhibits together. In the end I felt curious and inspired. I played tag at recess on Monday. My grandma baked bread in the kitchen.
Last month my family took a trip to visit cousins. First we packed clothes and gifts for everyone. Later we played games and laughed together all afternoon. Finally I felt thankful for my family. My notebook stayed under the chair. The mail arrived after breakfast.
