Mini Lesson
People have always needed ways to travel from one place to another — but how they did it has changed a lot over the years!
Long, long ago — animal power
- Before machines existed, people walked, rode horses, or sailed in simple boats.
- Example: A horse and carriage carried families to town.
- Travel was slow — a long trip could take days or even weeks.
The age of engines — trains and cars
- In the 1800s, inventors built the steam engine, which powered trains and steamboats.
- By the early 1900s, the first automobiles (cars) appeared on roads, making travel much faster and easier.
Taking to the skies — airplanes and rockets
- In 1903, the Wright Brothers flew the first airplane, letting people travel across countries in hours.
- Later, scientists built rockets powerful enough to leave Earth entirely and travel into space.
Why transportation matters
- Faster transportation connects communities, moves goods to stores, and lets families visit each other.
- Each new invention made the world feel a little smaller!
