Mini Lesson
Your community is all the people, buildings, and streets that make up your neighborhood and town β and every building has a special job!
What is a community?
- A community is a group of people who live and work near each other.
- Example: Your town or neighborhood is your community.
- Communities have special buildings called community places where people go to get help or services.
Places that help us learn and stay healthy
- A school is where children go to learn reading, math, and more.
- A library is where people borrow books and find information for free.
- A hospital is where doctors and nurses care for people who are sick or hurt.
Places that keep us safe and fed
- A fire station is where firefighters and their trucks are ready to put out fires and help in emergencies.
- A grocery store is where families buy food and everyday supplies.
- A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages.
Why community places matter
- Every community place provides a service β something helpful that people need.
- Together, these places make a community a safe and happy place to live.
Ask yourself: "What do people do at this place? Why would someone in my community need to go there?"
