Lesson 8: Read and Revise Writing Aloud

✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟢 A. Building Sentences and Paragraphs

← Back to Level 2

Objective

I can read my writing out loud to catch mistakes and improve flow by: fixing capitals, adding punctuation, breaking run‑ons, and replacing unclear words.

Materials

Tip: When you pause as you read, a punctuation mark likely belongs there.

Mini-lesson — How reading aloud helps revision

  1. Capitals + periods: Start sentences with capitals. End with ., !, or ?.
  2. Run-ons: If you run out of breath, split into two sentences or add a comma + and.
  3. Word choice: Replace vague words (stuff, things) with clear ones.
  4. Read for meaning: Does each sentence make sense and connect to the idea?
  5. Smooth sound: Try simple transitions like first, next, finally.

Guided Practice — Trace on the Pad

Practice reading marks and fixes. Trace these symbols/letters, then rewrite the sentence with better flow:

  • Symbols: . , ? ! “ ” '
  • Fix this: we went to the park it was funWe went to the park, and it was fun.
