Lesson 39: Class Storybook Project

✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Writing Projects

← Back to Level 2

Objective

I can plan and create 1–2 pages for a class storybook with:

We’ll keep characters and setting consistent from page to page and put pages in order from beginning → middle → end.

Materials

Tip: Decide on a main character and a problem (or goal). Each page should move the story forward.

Mini-lesson — Strong storybook pages

  1. Plan the path: Beginning (meet the character) → Middle (problem/actions) → End (solution/feeling).
  2. Match text and picture: The illustration should show the same moment your words describe.
  3. Use dialogue sparingly: Quotation marks help show talking.
  4. Keep details steady: Same names, same setting, same time unless it changes on purpose.
  5. Simple connectors: first, then, next, finally keep the story flowing.

Guided Practice — Trace and draft

Use the pad to trace helpful words, then draft your page text:

  • Key words: beginning, middle, end, then, finally
  • Example page:
    1. Text: Then Mia and Leo searched the library for the lost map.
    2. Picture: Two kids checking shelves; a map peeking out.
    3. Caption: “We found a clue!”
