Lesson 33: Edit a Partner’s Story Kindly

✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Writing Projects

← Back to Level 2

Objective

I can give kind, helpful feedback on a partner’s story using Two Stars and a Wish, and check for capitals, punctuation, spelling, and clear ideas.

Materials

Kind editors help, they don’t judge. We notice what’s working and give one small, doable suggestion.

Mini-lesson — Be a Kind Editor

  1. Two Stars and a Wish: Give 2 positive notes (🌟🌟) and 1 wish (✨ “I wish you…”) to improve.
  2. Use kind stems: “I noticed…”, “I liked…”, “Maybe add…”, “Could you clarify…?”.
  3. Check the basics: Capitals (start of sentences, I, names), punctuation (., !, ?), spelling, and clear ideas.
  4. Stay on topic: Suggestions should match the story’s main idea.
  5. Be specific: Point to a word or sentence, not the whole piece.

Guided Practice — Trace and Plan Your Feedback

Trace these feedback stems and then write your own short notes for a partner:

  • Star 1: “I noticed your beginning hook is…”
  • Star 2: “I liked how you used _____ because…”
  • Wish: “I wish you could add a sentence about…”

Tip: After giving feedback, read the story aloud and check capitals, punctuation, and spelling together.
