Objective

I can write a diary entry by telling what happened, adding a feeling, and ending my sentences with the right end mark.

Materials

Mini-lesson — A diary entry is your day in words

A diary entry is a short writing about your day. It sounds like you are talking to your diary.

A simple diary entry has 3 parts

  • Greeting: “Dear Diary,”
  • What happened: one or two sentences
  • How you felt: happy, proud, nervous, excited

Keep it easy

  • Write one small moment (not the whole day).
  • Use a time word like today, yesterday, or after.
  • End each sentence with a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.

Try this frame

  • Dear Diary, Today I ____.
  • I felt ____ because ____.

Neat writing makes your diary easy to read later.

Drag & Drop — Build diary entries in order

Each set has four lines from one diary entry: a date line, what happened, a detail, and a feeling. Drag the lines into the best order to build one diary page.
