A poem is like a tiny song on paper. Poems can rhyme, repeat, or paint a picture. Today we focus on rhyming words.

What is a rhyme?

  • cat and hat rhyme.
  • sun and fun rhyme.

Poem lines

  • A poem is written in lines.
  • Many poems have 2 lines or 4 lines.
  • Try to end lines with rhyming words.

Easy poem recipe

  • Pick a topic (pet, weather, snack).
  • Pick one rhyme pair (like cat / hat).
  • Write 2 short lines that end with your rhyme.

Ask yourself: "Do the last words sound the same at the end?"
