I can write a simple poem using rhyming words
that sound the same at the end.
Materials
- Sharpened pencil
- Eraser
- Ruled paper (primary lines preferred)
Mini-lesson — Rhymes make poems fun
A poem is like a tiny song on paper. Poems can rhyme, repeat, or paint a picture.
Today we focus on rhyming words.
What is a rhyme?
- Rhyming words have the same ending sound.
- cat and hat rhyme.
- sun and fun rhyme.
Poem lines
- A poem is written in lines.
- Many poems have 2 lines or 4 lines.
- Try to end lines with rhyming words.
Easy poem recipe
- Pick a topic (pet, weather, snack).
- Pick one rhyme pair (like cat / hat).
- Write 2 short lines that end with your rhyme.
Ask yourself:
"Do the last words sound the same at the end?"
