Mini Lesson

You have already written about yourself and your family. Now it is time to write about a friend! Writing about another person is a little different — you use he, she, or they instead of I.

Starter 1 — My friend is …

  • Use My friend is to describe what your friend is like.
  • Choose describing words for personality and appearance.
  • Example: My friend is kind and very funny.

Starter 2 — My friend likes to …

  • Use My friend likes to to say what your friend enjoys.
  • Follow with an action word, just like in Lesson 14.
  • Example: My friend likes to draw and paint.

Starter 3 — We like to … together

  • We means both you and your friend — two people together.
  • Use We like to … together to share an activity you both enjoy.
  • Example: We like to ride bikes together.

He, she, or they?

  • When you refer back to your friend, use he, she, or they.
  • Example: She is my best friend.
  • Using a pronoun avoids repeating the friend's name every sentence.
