Mini Lesson

Did you know your device has a tiny part called a microphone that can capture every word you say? A recording app lets you use that microphone to save your voice — and play it back any time!

How a recording app works

  • The app uses your device's microphone to listen for sound.
  • When you tap Record 🔴, the app starts saving everything it hears.
  • When you tap Stop ⏹, it stops capturing — and your recording is saved.
  • Example: Tap Record, say "Hello, my name is ___!", then tap Stop. Your voice is now saved forever!

Listening back

  • Tap Play ▶ to hear your recording through the speaker.
  • It might sound different from how your voice sounds to you — that is totally normal!
  • If you do not like the recording, tap Delete 🗑 and try again.

Sharing recordings safely

  • Only share a recording with a trusted adult's approval — just like photos.
  • Never record someone else without asking their permission first.
  • Keep private recordings — like your home address or full name — on the device only.

Microphone
A small part that picks up sound so a device can save ite.g. I spoke right toward the microphone.
Record
To save sound or video on a devicee.g. I tapped record and said my name.

Audio
